Fantasy Fishing: Get Signed up!

Fantasy fishing will be upon us in less than a month. For those die hard bass anglers, fantasy fishing is a great way to track the pros during their season, plus possibly winning some great prizes. This season, Tonka Tackle owner Tom Harkman and I, will be hosting fantasy fishing leagues for both the FLW and Bassmaster circuits. Teambassackwards.com will be working with Tom's website, FiveBass.com, to create a fun and possibly rewarding fantasy fishing league. Please visit my "Fantasy Fishing" Tab for instructions to join our league.

Ice Fishing Fun

Fishapalooza. If this word doesn't get you excited and raise the corners of your mouth, I am sorry...but please read on because you must. Fishapalooza offers ice fishermen and women a fantastic experience that must be lived if not only once. If it offers only one thing, it is the companionship that is shared between people crazy enough to stand on a sheet of ice that has 20,000 holes drilled through it. I have seen first hand the look my younger brother gave when he was 5 years old and his whole leg fell through a pre-drilled hole. Oh yes... this is Minnesota.

In order to prepare for this fabled event, I will be attending the Brainerd Jaycees $150,000 Ice Fishing Extravaganza. You might ask how an extravaganza can prepare one for a fishapalooza, and I'll answer "prove that it won't". A brand new Ford truck for first prize lessens the pain of the drive, and fishing with newly converted ice fishing derby friends increases the good times and our odds of winning glorious prizes. At noon  on Saturday,  January 22nd, good luck trying to find me on Gull Lake amongst the other Carhart clad anglers. My head will be down preparing to lower my fate into the darkness we call water, and with any hope, the spot I have chosen will be lucky.

I have only one suggestion if you are lucky enough to attend one of these two events. See the fish below? It wasn't a winner and the walk to the weigh in was far and tiring. I suggest throwing this size back.
